The Baptist Association: Igniting Passion
But ye shall receive power, after the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and ye shall be witnessess unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8
A great God has given a great people (His church) a great commandment and a great commission to go to everybody and to demonstrate love by sharing the great story that changes lives. God came down and lived the perfect life in order to give His life for imperfect man so that He may live inside of man. The coming of the Holy Spirit made obeying His commands possible, purposeful, and powerful. Yes, we can do it!
The principle is: churches work together in order to do what one church cannot do alone. After all, Jesus gave His people a GREAT commission. The driving force is the love of God in reaching a world that needs the Gospel. God's Word identifies the principle used to justify and propel churches forming an association (Acts 8; Acts 11:1-8; Acts 15:1-35, Acts 16:1-3; 1 Corinthians 16:1-4; 2 Corinthians 8-9). Reading Scripture will produce the passion the early church had to work together to accomplish their mission.
Bible truth drives the existence of the Baptist Association. Principle and passion determined the first Baptist Association and remains the Biblical basis for today's work in local Baptist Associations. As "no man is an island" one church cannot accomplish the great task by herself. It takes ALL of us filled by His Spirit working together for the King to fulfill His work.
Let us all join together in prayer May 20th - May 26th as we ask God to ignite a passion in each of us and through association with one another work to fulfill the His mission.
